Freyja has experience across all of Chamber’s practice areas and has appeared in the County Court, the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the First Tier Property tribunal. She has developed a busy property and commercial practice and is equally adept in both applications and trials.
Freyja has been appointed to the Government Junior Junior Scheme and gained experience observing complex employment tribunal matters involving the application of the European Convention of Human Rights through this appointment as well as being led on a major public inquiry, acting for a Government Department.
Prior to commencing Pupillage, Freyja worked as a Paralegal at a leading city law firm with a focus on commercial contracts and construction disputes.
Freyja was awarded the Queen Mother Scholarship and Blackstone Exhibition Award from Middle Temple and graduated from the BPTC with a distinction.
Expertise
Property
Freyja has a busy property practice which encompasses all of Chamber’s property specialisms, specifically social housing and landlord & tenant work.
Freyja’s regular work includes:
- Possession proceedings on all grounds for both private and social landlords as well as proceedings in the High Court, enforcement in the High Court, opposing stay applications, opposing permission to appeal applications and interim possession orders;
- Mortgage possession proceedings;
- Forfeiture possession proceedings;
- Appearing in the FTT concerning s.27A LTA 1985 applications;
- Anti-Social Behaviour Injunctions including trials, interim and final injunctions, ex-parte injunctions and committal proceedings;
- Party wall injunctions and declarations, specifically including the Party Wall ect Act 1996;
- Acting in disrepair matters and drafting defences to the same;
- Directions and application matters; including pre action disclosure, summary judgement and strike out applications
Insolvency
Freyja accepts instructions in a variety of insolvency matters including personal insolvency and corporate insolvency. She has experience acting for debtors, creditors and office holders in a variety of applications. Freyja volunteers at the Bankruptcy Representation Unit, giving her experience acting on last minute instruction in the insolvency courts.
Freyja’s recent practice has included:
- Appearing throughout bankruptcy proceedings for both debtors and creditors including advising on applications to set aside a statutory demand, opposing bankruptcy orders and petitioning for bankruptcy orders;
- Winding up petitions;
- Applications relating to Administrations including applications to extend administrations and applications to discharge liability;
- Applications on behalf of Liquidators including applications pursuant to s.108, s.201, s.234 and s.236 of the Insolvency Act 1986;
- Advising on limitation in an insolvency context, specifically the application of s.32 of the Limitation Act 1981;
Commercial
Freyja has built a busy practice in our Commercial Division, in both pleadings and advocacy. She has been successful in summary judgement applications as well as at trial.
In our Commercial Division, Freyja has particular experience with:
- Drafting particulars of claims in a wide variety of contractual commercial disputes including share guarantee agreements, hire purchase disputes and loan agreements.
- Successfully appearing in contractual dispute trials including school fee disputes, solicitor fees disputes and renewal fee disputes.
- Applications to extend time to register a charge under s.859F Companies Act 2006
- Defences in contractual disputes specifically focusing on employment dismissal and reputational damage.
Employment
Freyja is building a practice within employment law and has been led by a leading KC on an employment matter involving military personal. This matter involved the application of the Human Rights Act and the Equality Act 2010.
Freyja has also provided lengthy written advice to a billion-dollar company regarding potential employment liability including direct and indirect discrimination and disability discrimination.
Freyja has also assisted members of chambers with business immigration issues and applications in an employment context.
