Profile
Freyja joined Five Paper as a tenant in October 2024 after successful completion of her pupillage. She has experience across all of Chamber’s practice areas and has appeared in both the County Court, the High Court and the First Tier Property tribunal. Freyja has been appointed to the Government Junior Junior Scheme and gained experience observing complex employment tribunal matters involving the application of the European Convention of Human Rights through this appointment. Freyja is currently being led on a major public inquiry, acting for a Government Department.
Prior to commencing Pupillage, Freyja worked as a Paralegal at a leading city law firm with a focus on commercial contracts and construction disputes.
Freyja was awarded the Queen Mother Scholarship and Blackstone Exhibition Award from Middle Temple and graduated from the BPTC with a distinction. Whilst studying, Freyja volunteered at Citizens Advice, assisting with drafting PIP appeal claims and Support Through Court, where she supported vulnerable litigants in person.
Expertise
Property
Freyja is building a practice in Chamber’s social housing specialism, in addition to all areas of Property law. Freyja has experience in both written submissions and hearings. During her time as a pupil with Sam Phillips, Elizabeth England and Simon Sterlitz, Freyja was involved with a wide variety of possession claims involving capacity issues, Equality Act defences, Public Law defences and Human Right challenges. She also observed disrepair trials, committal proceedings and complex succession trials; including shadowing Nick Grundy KC in the Court of Appeal in Rahimi v City of Westminister Council [2024] EWCA 73.
In our Property Division, Freyja has particular experience with conducting:
- Possession proceedings including proceedings in the High Court, enforcement in the High Court, opposing stay applications, opposing permission to appeal applications as well as both possession on all grounds for private and public landlords;
- Forfeiture possession proceedings;
- Anti-Social Behaviour Injunctions including trials, interim and final injunctions, ex-parte injunctions and committal proceedings;
- Access injunctions;
- Party wall injunctions and declerations, specifically including the Party Wall ect Act 1996;
- Acting in disrepair matters and drafting defences to the same;
- Pre action disclosure applications;
- Directions and application matters; including strike out applications.
Commercial
Freyja is also building a practice in our Commercial Division, including bankruptcy and insolvency, business immigration and employment. Freyja volunteers at the Bankruptcy Representation Unit, giving her experience acting on last minute instruction in the insolvency courts. During her pupillage with Gita Chakravarty, Freyja observed multiple bankruptcy proceedings, from initial conferences through to trials. Freyja was also involved with a 3-day High Court bankruptcy appeal, observing Rachel Sleeman in a complex capacity based challenge. Furthermore, Freyja drafted advice on super injunctions and any possible such interference such injunctions have with Article 10 for Roger Laville.
In our Commercial Division, Freyja has particular experience with:
- Applications to a extend a charge;
- Directions hearings;
- Drafting successful grounds of appeal to the Court of Appeal in regulatory matters;
- Drafting defences in a professional negligence/loss of goodwill matters;
- Bankruptcy proceedings, acting for both the debtor and creditor;
- Advising on limitation in an insolvency context, specifically the application of s.32 of the Limitation Act 1981;
- Advising on employment law liability for major companies.
