Oliver Hutchings

Profile

During his first six, Oliver has gained experience across all of Chambers’ practice areas including:

  • Social Housing: claims for possession, anti-social behaviour injunctions, access injunctions, disrepair, homelessness, nuisance, and EPA proceedings;
  • Landlord and Tenant: matters relating to unauthorised alterations, unlawful subletting, service charge disputes, and the Right to Manage;
  • Insolvency and Company: winding-up petitions, bankruptcy petitions, administration applications, office-holder claims, shareholder disputes, and claims for breach of contract.

Before commencing pupillage, Oliver spent four years at the Law Commission of England and Wales as a Legal Assistant. He supported the development of the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024 and was responsible for the implementation of the Commission’s recommendations relating to the costs of enfranchisement and Right to Manage claims. During this time, Oliver completed the Bar Course with ICCA, acted pro bono with FRU, and volunteered with Advocate where he was praised for his “shrewd attention to detail” and “ability to convey complex issues in simple language”.

Oliver graduated with a First Class Law Degree from the University of Exeter in 2020. Alongside his studies, Oliver advised clients on social security, property, landlord and tenant, and environmental law issues at the University of Exeter’s Access to Justice Clinic. He was a finalist of his university’s Moot Court Competition and supported the research and drafting of memorials for the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2019.
