The articles consider the meaning of EU citizenship and the rights granted to EU citizens, workers and members of their families. Such rights are derived from Articles 20 and 21 TFEU in respect of citizens and Articles 45, 49 and 56 TFEU in respect of workers. Further rights can be found in Regulation 492/2011 as well as Directive 2004/38, which has been implemented in the UK by the Immigration (European Economic Area) Regulations 2006/1003.
The articles also contain an outline of the latest developments in relation to primary carers, including their entitlements to welfare benefits (R (HS) v SSWP [2013] EWHC 3874 and R (Sanneh) v SSWP [2013] EWHC 793); legislative provisions for benefits for job seekers from other EU countries; and the right to work for Croatian nationals as a result of their recent accession to the EU.
